Hand Filler: What Your Visit Is Actually Like

If you've never had filler in your hands, you may wonder what to expect. They're one of the more active parts of the body, after all. Here's a clear walk-through, step by step.
We start by talking
We'll look at your hands at rest and in motion, and ask what you notice and what you'd like to see. Sometimes the plan is simple. Sometimes the best advice is to start smaller, wait, or consider a different treatment for the concern you have. All of those are good outcomes.
The treatment
The area is cleansed and numbed for comfort. Your injector places small amounts of filler across the back of each hand, working gradually and checking the result with you as you move your fingers and wrists. The filler is usually massaged gently into place as part of the treatment.
Most people feel pressure and some tenderness. The treatment is usually unhurried, and we take time at the end to look at your hands together.
The days that follow
Hands are in constant use, so swelling, tenderness, and some bruising are common and can be more noticeable than in other areas. Most people find these settle within about one to two weeks, though everyone heals differently. The filler continues to settle during that time, so the first few days aren't your final result.
We'll give you aftercare instructions specific to you. In general, that means being gentle with your hands, avoiding very strenuous activity or heavy lifting for a short period, keeping them elevated when you can, and skipping heat and alcohol briefly. It's also wise to plan treatment well ahead of any event where you'll want your hands to look their best.
A short note on what we watch for
Complications are uncommon, and we'll go over exactly what to look for before you leave. In short: increasing pain, unusual skin color changes, lumps that concern you, or signs of infection should be reported to us right away.
What natural results look like
Soft and healthy. Veins and tendons look a little less prominent, the skin looks a little smoother, and your hands look more rested. If they look puffy or artificial, the treatment has gone too far.
How long does it last?
Results commonly last several months to a year or longer, depending on your anatomy, how actively you use your hands, and the product used. We'll talk about follow-up based on how your hands look and feel, not on a set schedule.
If you're local to Carlsbad Village and want to understand the process before deciding anything, we're glad to walk you through it in person.
