Let’s Talk About HIPAA (Yes, It Also Applies to Med Spas)

Medical spas often feel different from a traditional doctor’s or dental office. They’re warm, welcoming, and designed to feel like a luxury experience—and we love that about what we’ve created here. That said, it’s important to remember that we are still a medical practice, and that means we are legally and ethically required to follow HIPAA regulations.

Because of that, we want to take a moment to talk specifically about patient communication.

Why We Don’t Communicate Medical Information on Social Media

We recently shared a reminder about why all patient communication must go through our office phone number only. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and other social media channels do not comply with HIPAA privacy standards. Even something that seems simple—like sending a photo, asking about healing, or inquiring about treatment details—can put your private health information at risk.

For this reason, we cannot discuss:

  • Treatment recommendations

  • Candidacy for procedures

  • Healing concerns or post-treatment questions

  • Past or future treatment details

through social media DMs or comments.

“Can I Send a Photo to See If I’m a Candidate?”

We get this question often, and while we completely understand the curiosity, the answer is no—and here’s why:

  1. HIPAA Compliance: Social media messaging is not a secure or protected form of medical communication.

  2. In-Person Assessment Matters: Our providers need to evaluate you in person to safely and accurately recommend treatment. This includes assessing tissue, structure, texture, and movement—things that simply cannot be determined through a photo.

  3. Photos Can Be Misleading: Lighting, angles, filters, and image quality can dramatically change how something appears. What we see in person is always far more accurate than what shows up on a screen.

This is exactly why we offer in-office consultations—they allow us to create a personalized, safe, and effective treatment plan tailored specifically to you.

We Make Time for Your Questions—In Person

When you book an appointment—whether you’re returning for a specific treatment or coming in for the first time—we intentionally allot enough time during your visit for questions. Whether it’s your first appointment or your tenth, we want you to feel informed, comfortable, and confident in your care.

Your appointment time isn’t just for treatment—it’s also an opportunity to:

  • Ask questions about your current or past treatments

  • Learn more about other services you may be interested in

  • Discuss goals, concerns, and long-term treatment planning

This is another reason we encourage all medical questions to be addressed during your appointment or through our office directly, rather than over social media.

For Our Existing Patients

If you’ve already been treated by us, we kindly ask that you still avoid reaching out via social media for questions about healing, treatment details, or new services you’re considering. Instead, please contact our office directly so we can assist you properly and securely.

Why HIPAA Really Matters

HIPAA isn’t just a rule we have to follow—it’s in place to protect you. It ensures your personal health information stays private, secure, and handled with care. By keeping all medical communication within approved channels, we’re doing our part to safeguard your trust and your well-being.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Our goal is always to provide exceptional care—while also protecting your privacy every step of the way.
